AUSTRIA, LINZ - Brucknerhaus, Great Hall, 10.5.1981

Italian and Spanish opera singer have found a new sphere of activity: Besides opera and aria performances, it is more and more fashionable to do Italian recitals.

After Franco Boniselli's last successful recital, the organizers and Jose Carreras had to move to the Brucknerhouse's Great Hall because the publics demand have steadily increased. 20 songs and two encores: The audience delighted in Italian song, baroque and belcanto aria culture from Alessandro Scarletti to Haendel (arias from „Tolomeo" und „Xerxes“), Bellini, Donizetti to Rossini. Mompou and Tosti were also represented as well as songs by the Spanish composer Fernando Obradors. Carreras: His voce was brilliant in all registers and with his legato and phrasing he proved that he belongs to the very best of tenors in our time. Yes and he proved with his recital that he also dominates this area very well.

Very surprising is the perfect voice and breath technique from the first to the last note and dividing up the energy until the end. A great evening!
