Puccini:
" Madame Butterfly "
Viene la sera

Pinkerton Pinkerton Pinkerton
Der Abend kommt. Viene la sera. Evening is coming.
Butterfly Butterfly Butterfly
Und die Dunkelheit und der Frieden. E l’ombra e la quiete. And darkness and peace.
Pinkerton Pinkerton Pinkerton
Und du bist hier allein. E sei qui sola. And you’re here alone.
Butterfly Butterfly Butterfly
Sola e rinnegata!
Rinnegata—e felice!
(Pinkerton batte le mani: i servi e Suzuki accorrono subito.)
Alone and renounced!
Renounced—and happy!
(Pinkerton claps his hands; the servants and Suzuki run in quickly.)
Pinkerton (zu den Dienern) Pinkerton (ai servi) Pinkerton (to the servants)
Ihr da, schließt zu!
(Die Diener schließen schweigend die Wände.)
A voi, chiudete!
(I servi fanno scorrere silenziosamente alcune pareti.)
Come, close up the shosi.
(The servants silently move some of the shosi walls.)
Butterfly Butterfly Butterfly
Ja, ja, wir beide ganz allein,
und draußen die Welt -
Si, si, noi tutti soli,
e fuori il mondo ...
Yes, yes, we are alone,
and outside the world .
Pinkerton Pinkerton Pinkerton
- und der wütende Bonze. E il Bonzo furibondo. And the raging Bonze!
Butterfly (zu Suzuki, die auf ihre Befehle wartet) Butterfly (a Suzuki, che sta aspettando gli ordini) Butterfly (to Suzuki, who is waiting for orders)
Suzuki, meine Gewänder! Suzuki, le mie vesti. Suzuki, my clothes.
Suzuki  Suzuki  Suzuki
(Suzuki sucht in einer Truhe und gibt
Butterfly das Nachtkleid und einen kleinen
Behälter mit Toilettensachen.)

(verneigt sich vor Pinkerton)Gute Nacht.

(Die Diener gehen ab. Butterfly geht ins

(inchinandosi a Pinkerton) Buona notte.

(I servi corrono via.

(Suzuki rummages in a box and gives Butterfly her nightgown and a little casket with toilet requisites.)

(bowing to Pinkerton) Goodnight.

(The servants run off. Butterfly goes into the house, and, assisted by Suzuki, prepares to retire, taking off her wedding dress and putting on a white robe; then she sits on a cushion, and looking in a mirror tidies her hair.)

Dieser prächtige Obi behindert mich, ... Quest’obi pomposa di scioglier mi tarda... This ostentatious obi is hindering my undressing...
Pinkerton Pinkerton Pinkerton
Sie ist wie... Con moti. Her movements are as delicate...
Butterfly Butterfly Butterfly
an!
Wenn ich mich verstecken könnte!...
... si vesta la sposa di puro candor.
Tra motti sommessi sorride e mi guarda.
Celarmi potessi!
... the bride dresses in pure white.
With his soft words he smiles and watches me.
If only I could hide!...
Pinkerton Pinkerton Pinkerton
Meine Frau! Aber sie ist von solch einer
Anmut, ...
... di scoiattolo i nodi allenta e scioglie!
Pensar che quel giocattolo è mia moglie!
Mia moglie! Ma tal grazia dispiega...
... as a little squirrel’s, as she loosens and unties the knots
To think that little plaything is my wife!
My wife! But she displays such grace...
Butterfly Butterfly Butterfly
... Ich bin ganz rot geworden! ... ne ho tanto rossore! ...I am blushing so much!
Pinkerton Pinkerton Pinkerton
... daß ich wie...
... von einem plötzlichen Fieber gepackt bin!
... ch’io mi struggo per...
... la febbre d’un subito desio.
... that I am consumed by...
the fever of a sudden desire.
Butterfly Butterfly Butterfly
Und immer noch verflucht mich die wütende
Stimme:
Butterfly, verstoßen,
verstoßen und doch glücklich.
E ancor l’irata voce mi maledice—
Butterfly, rinnegata,
rinnegata e felice.
And still the angry voice curses me—
Butterfly, renounced,
renounced and happy.
